twilight: breaking dawn ii

bella figures out how to be a vampire in this one and how to have the world deal with it. this one is not my favorite of the bunch, but i like that she is a different character and serves a different point in the plot #growth. it's still going to be five stars, like all of the others, because it's just too good. they will never be able to remake another movie as culturally significant as twilight.

their wedding is so freaking beautiful. like every detail, just so amazing that it makes me emotional. i think i also missed some sort of detail, or maybe this is just some sort of like plot hole, but how the hell did bella end up getting pregnant? scientifically i do not understand. also the opening line to this being "childhood is the kingdom where nobody dies," is also just so freaking beautiful.

bella basically chooses between jacob and edward in this one, and that seems to be about what the main point of this movie was. what frustrated me a lot was that they (i guess the movie didn't do much to raise flags about this and people generally still fighting for team jacob) pretended like it was chill that jacob spoke to bella like he was entitled to any part of her, in a sort of gross and arrogant way. he constantly gave bella ultimatums and shut her out, and we were supposed to act like this didn't have a weird relationship with her finally admitting her feelings and kissing him in front of edward. like if he kept threatening her and saying she was going to lose him entirely (he said he was going to kill something, hurt someone, never talk to her again, etc.), what else was she supposed to do other than feel entirely cornered? and we are supposed to believe her feelings were entirely unaffected by this? lest we forget, they are like 17 at this point. way too forceful for my tastes in romance. anyways. also i did not care about the newborn battle they were building up the whole time. but this is also my like millionth rewatch so whatever.

the soundtrack on this movie is insane. like insanely good. i felt myself compelled to look up a few of the songs, and it feels like just the right vibe for the plot. and it's just freaking good. bella is insanely sufferable in this one, which is maybe a given for her character and for how much she was heartbroken. i really liked how this one built a lot on her relationship with jacob, which would have only been possible with (spoiler alert) edward's absence. this movie also did the same thing where the plot got really serious like 75% of the way through. which is fine. re: last review

twilight

say what you will about the entire twilight series, but these movies are my favorite of all time. this first one, in particular, is so funny. the color grade is insanely peak, too. i really enjoy the way that it builds up, the setting and all of the characters, before it gets more serious about like 75% of the way through. after that, of course it is interesting, but the cute and cheesy stuff is what i live for. it's just too good to give it any less than five stars i'm sorry.

i was looking around on letterboxd to see what other people thought of this movie, and i was honestly really disappointed to see that it had such low ratings and people were so critical of it. i think this movie did really well to talk about what it is like to go through a grieving process silently, especially when other people are depending on you or looking to you to be a model. aside from this massive throughline, which made the rom-com not feel very rom or com, i really enjoyed the acting and it all felt generally quite pleasant. of course there were some questionable areas, but the movie was from 2009. so, i guess take that as you will.

i really, really, really love this anime. it's so cute and the stories and character growths are really, very heartwarming. my favorite characters are definitely all might and izuku midoriya. i don't really even know what else to say about it all. i finally finished the very last episode after waiting a few months and read the final chapter of the manga to clear some things up, and it was really wholesome. i feel like i've grown with the characters over the years, and it's sad to see it come to an end. the world that horikoshi has built is truly one of a kind.

honestly, it's not awful. it's just not really my favorite right now. i think i'm going to give up on it. i might come back some day, but it's probably unlikely. i really like the dub voice actors, and the story is cute, but it's kinda whatever and not my kind of anime.

boyfriend on demand

ALT

rating: ★★★☆☆

okay... i'm somewhere between a 3 and a 4 stars range for this one. honestly, i had a lot of mixed feelings for the whole 'boyfriend on demand' concept and this being a sort of a virtual reality thing. on one hand it was a cool concept, on the other hand, i wish it could have stood closer to the storylines occurring outside of the game. even with kyeong nam, the progression felt a bit confusing and really slow up until like episode 8 when it randomly started moving really fast. it did have a good closure, so i do give it that, but i still think this could have been executed just slightly better.

like, i can't even lie. ai yazawa is a genius. my favorite manga author to date. her ability to create such a beautiful story, such strong relationships, such intense and deep feelings and messages. her artsyle. the characters she creates. the world she imagines. i was so confused around 25% way through, but as things started clearing up, it was so beautiful. i was skeptical of the four children and their involvement in the story, and i wished, at some parts, that the storytelling would go back to mizuki or adam, but i am really glad it didn't. it was so refreshing and such an interesting perspective to bring to the story. if manga is not your jam, i recommend you try reading this one. it's only 16 chapters, so you could get through it in a couple of hours. just wow.

what an interesting range of songs, especially after a few hits. i could certainly tell where ryan ross drew some of his inspiration from. some of the tracks on this collection had some really fun bells and whistles; it was really whimsical and exciting while still balancing a deep melancholic intimacy. treating this collection as an independent production, i am intrigued by the story its telling. now, taking it for what it is, it shapes up to be a really fantastic and profound soundtrack for a movie.

i'm listening to this with an objective. i found an article that gave ryan ross's top five albums at the time that he was touring for a fever you can't sweat out. not only did he list these (more to come, don't you worry) albums as his top five, but he said that he drew great inspiration from all of these in the creation of his own album. i'm curious. good album, first listen was average, but i'm needing more. feels more of its time than anything.

another piece of inspiring lawyer content. i watched this with my mom and she kept asking me if this is the kind of lawyer i am going to be. i hope so, but also, damn i don't want to be involved in the mafia. it felt more inspiring than erin brokovich and i would honestly watch it again.

this was my first k-drama and i was so pleasantly surprised. i had not given k-dramas a chance before, and not for any good reason, but this was a really good introduction into the genre and i'm honestly really excited about all of the k-dramas i have yet to experience. i really liked their romance, but i honestly felt really bad for hiro. i'm glad they gave him the storyline they did, though, because it would be too unfortunate for a handsome guy to get everything he wants by virtue of being handsome.

this anime did a lot for me, in that it actually helped me get back into anime in a way that i was honestly surprised by. it was from the same creators of deathnote, which i actually did not know and did not find out until much later. i liked the progression, and i was honestly really impressed by it, but i was a bit let down by the ending. it felt almost like an attack on titan ending where i was like... really? all of that for this? but alas. still really great.
